Issue Position: Making Government Work for The People

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Government works when everyone has a voice.
District 19 voters have been under attack from voter ID laws, gerrymandering, and now precinct consolidation. Our state legislature has been at the mercy of well-financed special interest groups and unlimited financial contributions by corporations. Lisa believes we cannot put Indiana back on its feet until we live up to our basic Hoosier values, such as honesty, integrity, and hard work; and that starts with our electoral process.

If elected, Lisa will fight to:

Oppose restructuring precincts in Lake County, because this discourages voters and leads to additional voting restrictions
Advance a non-partisan commission to draw legislative boundaries outside partisan loyalties and patronage
Encourage an "Open Government Initiative" that strengthens access to public information and requires transparency from public officials
Support sensible political contribution laws to allow ordinary citizens to support their chosen candidate, while also keeping them accountable and preventing the special interests and out-of-state groups from putting their interests over the interests of Northwest Indiana
